Is the Whisky Market Up or Down?

We tracked average hammer prices month-by-month across all auction sources to determine the overall direction of the rare whisky market.

Market is Softening

Average auction prices have dipped 1.9% over the past quarter. This represents a consolidation after the strong gains of 2024–2025, not a structural decline.

Reading this chart: The amber line tracks average hammer price across all auction sources each month. Volume bars show trading activity. A rising price line with stable volume signals organic appreciation; a falling price with high volume can indicate forced selling or market correction.

03

Most Traded Collectibles by Volume

High auction volume among investment-grade collectibles indicates genuine secondary market liquidity — critical when assessing whether a bottle can realistically be exited at its target price. All 4 tiers represented: Titans, annual hype, ghost distilleries, and modern icons.

04

Collectible Prices by Region

Scottish whisky regions have distinct flavour profiles — and distinct price trajectories among collectible expressions. Here's how rare bottles from each region performed at auction.

Average Hammer Price by Region (£)
Auction Volume by Region
Region Avg Price Min Max Lots
Japan £1,453 £528 £3,850 36
Speyside £1,350 £440 £2,486 18
Highlands £589 £510 £678 9

05

Average ROI by Age Statement

Age is one of the strongest price drivers in Scotch whisky. Older expressions command significant premiums — but NAS (No Age Statement) bottles can surprise.

Average Hammer Price by Age Band (£)
Age Band Avg Auction Price Max Recorded Auction Lots
Under 10yr £46 £62 16
10-14yr £56 £158 207
15-19yr £159 £722 237
20-24yr £337 £1,296 51
25yr+ £878 £3,850 95
NAS £49 £107 235

Investor takeaway: The premium for each additional decade of age accelerates non-linearly. A 25-year expression doesn't just cost more than a 12-year — it trades in a completely different buyer pool. Liquidity drops as age increases, so exit strategy matters.
